University of Arkansas Extension Cotton Project

The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of cover crops on irrigation water use efficiency, profitability, and sustainability. The University of Arkansas Cotton Research Verification/ Sustainability program conducted research along with Discovery Farms in Arkansas. Each field was composed of two irrigation sets allowing for evaluation of farmer standard practices, till/ no-cover to that of a modified production system no-till/cover. All fields were monitored for inputs and entered into the Fieldprint Calculator and used to calculate expenses.

Objectives

The objective of this study is to evaluate the impact of cover crops on irrigation water use efficiency, profitability, and sustainability for 1300 acres of cotton.
First Party Verified

We work with producers throughout the growing season and collect field data. A record of all inputs for each field is kept to have economics calculated and for Fieldprint Calculator entry. Through entry into the Fieldprint Calculator we are able to see areas of improvement when comparing a modified production system no-till cover to farmer standard no cover.
